Ned doesn't like to listen. He likes to jump, swing and slide. But one day, his carefree ways get him into trouble by the river and he soon learns that listening is important. Exploring themes of behaviour, friendship and safety, this fun and engaging story also includes comprehension activities and extra discussion topics making it perfect for supporting learning at school. Featuring original stories, delightful characters and humorous illustrations, Reading Gems is a series designed to spark a love of reading. It is a supplementary reading programme that is graded into four levels to perfectly suit a child's reading ability from an emerging reader to a confident, independent reader. Parents and teachers can be reassured that children are reading books that support their ability, challenge their reading skills and encourage reading confidence with every word on the page.
Lucy Barnard grew up in a very artistic family and knew from an early age that she wanted to work in illustration. After graduating from the University of Plymouth with an illustration degree, Lucy worked in publishing for a time, before becoming a freelance illustrator and realising her ambition of working on children's books.
