Sara is convinced that her adopted sister Becca’s disappearance a year ago happened under supernatural circumstances - in connection with the town’s local legend about Lucy Gallows. Lucy disappeared in the 1950s into a part of the woods locals now believe to be haunted, and Sara thinks Becca might be there too.

Sara is right, and the way this story unfolds is truly a thrill. Marshall’s inventive imagination is on display here as Sara and a small group of her friends navigate their way through the haunted forest, encountering all manner of ghouls and traps. There’s also a burgeoning first love happening quietly in these pages that I really appreciated.

If you’re looking for a moody mystery, enjoy the supernatural genre and are patient with complexity, this is the book for you. I really relished this.
