Long-listed for Desmond Elliott Prize 2016.

Anne Jaccob is our protagonist, a young woman coming to age in wealthy Georgian society. This novel follows her through her lows, as she is arranged to be married to someone she does not love, to her highs, finding love and solace with the local butcher's son. But will the solace he provides be her salvation or damnation? This is a haunting but beautiful debut. –Anastasia, The Book Grocer
